How to Do a Side Twist Ponytail on Yourself

The everyday ponytail provides a convenient solution to keeping hair out of your face. Adding further elements to your ponytail, however, converts it from the practical to the fashionable. Gathering your ponytail into a twist and wearing it to one side provides a classic style that recalls the majesty of old Hollywood. Forming your side twist ponytail correctly ensures that it remains in place and continues to impress throughout the day.

Part your hair on one side with a flat brush. If wearing the ponytail over your left shoulder, part your hair on the right side. If wearing the ponytail over your right shoulder, part your hair on the left side.

Gather your hair on the same side as the part. Starting on the side of your temple, twist the hair in your hand up toward the part. Work gradually from the temple to the nape of your neck, gathering any loose strands along the way.

Hold the twisted section in place with one hand while using the other hand to insert two to three bobby pins into the section to secure it in place.

Gather the other side of your hair, opposite the twisted section. As before, begin at your temple and twist your hair from front to back.

Join the two sides together to the side of the nape of your neck. Secure the second twist in place by inserting a bobby where the hair twists around the back of your head.

Wrap the ponytail through an elastic hairband to keep it in place.
