John Andrew Quale; The Pretty, the Perplexing – Prince Poppycock
Posted By Stephanie Tripp on September 15, 2010
I was watching America’s Got Talent on NBC a couple of weeks ago with my love’s mom. There were the singers strumming away on their guitars. A dance troupe did flips and acrobatic feats. A little girl singing her heart out. Then, appeared something unlike anything I’d ever seen: Prince Poppycock. The name itself made me giggle. A character walked onto the stage with a huge troupe of performers; all sparkling and colorful. The main singer was dressed head-to-toe in sparkles and had a doll-like face. I burst out laughing. Then I heard him sing. What a lovely voice! Many times I loathe self-proclaimed freak-shows, such as the likes of (gag) Lady GaGa. But Prince Poppycock was charming.
Poppycock is different. He has a look I would describe of a history book and a fairytale PLUS a runway magazine smashed together- poof! His skin is as white as paint primer but as iridescent as a fairy godmother. His hair is soft and cloud-like. His clothes are so colonial with a modern drag-twist, complete with high heels. While he seems flamboyantly gay, silly and a bit crazy, he isn’t obnoxious. There is some quality about him that just draws you in and makes you want to give his glittery, towering being a huge hug. You want to watch him sing and dance, even if you say you don’t.
